Training
As part of its strategic objectives, IAQM aims to promote the education and training of its members. Relevant material is set out below.
| Continuing professional development |
Continuing professional development (CPD) aims to facilitate your career development through structuring your needs and requirements and by providing incentives to continue learning and improving your professional skills.
IAQM operates a CPD process to allow members to develop as air quality professionals. Please click here for a CPD self-evaluation form - IAQM members are required to keep this up to date. The guidance document which accompanies the form (click here) explains the requirements and what counts as CPD.
Please contact the IAQM secretary with any queries.
In addition to IAQM requirements, the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) operates a voluntary CPD process though the Chartered Environmentalist award requires CPD to be maintained. Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) became available to IES members on the award of the Royal Charter to the Society for the Environment (SocEnv) in 2004. |

| Courses |
| MSc / Diploma in air pollution management and control |
A part-time or full-time postgraduate course at Birmingham University, UK. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of air pollution, its management and control. The course describes the underpinning basic science of the atmosphere, both its physics and its chemistry, needed to understand air pollution and its dispersal. It explains the causes and the effects/impacts of air pollution, its management from local to international levels, and the engineering controls used to reduce emissions from industry and transport. Research methods are also introduced and there is the opportunity to go into greater depth in a particular chosen area through a literature review and a research project.

| Accreditation of short courses/ conferences |
IAQM will be undertaking accreditation of short courses and conferences. The long term aim is to accredit courses suitable for air quality professionals in a wide range of subjects under our strategic aim “Promoting the education and training of air quality professionals”. Initially we are starting with short courses and conferences with a view to extending the scheme to longer courses in the future. The criteria for IAQM accreditation are as follows:
- IAQM has been supplied with a full course syllabus/ agenda
- The course/ conference is predominantly based around air quality issues
- IAQM consider the course content is suitable for career development and CPD in air quality issues
- The course / conference is delivered by people appropriately qualified in air quality
- Course organisers will provide customer satisfaction feedback to the IAQM wherever possible
If you are interested in having any courses or conferences accredited, please contact Clare Beattie (ClareBeattie@aqconsultants.co.uk). All accredited courses will be included on the ‘Events’ or ‘Training’ sections of our website. |
